Hilton Capitol Center, located at 201 Lafayette St. in the Downtown Baton Rouge area is an 11-story, 132 feet (40 m)-tall skyscraper. The hotel is part of the Hilton Hotels chain. The building was originally the Heidelberg Hotel, which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982 in a successful attempt to prevent its demolition. It stood vacant between 1985 and 2006, when it was reopened after a 60 million dollar renovation.
The Heidelberg Hotel was a favorite dwelling of Louisiana Governor Huey Long, who had a seventh-floor suite.
